Festival Branding Project

Osheaga Festival Project
Objective

To create promotional material for my own version of the Oshega festival in Montreal.

Inspiration

I'm from Montreal and I love my city. Osheaga is one of the biggest events we have here during the summer and I've been quite a few times. I was inspired to create my poster and promotional material from some of their past posters also by an app called Festify. Festify takes your Spotify library and makes a line up for a fake festival based on your spotify listening history.

Design Elements

Poster
The poster was created in Adobe Illustrator. I created the Montreal skyline at the bottom of the poster by image tracing a photo of the Montreal skyline. As for the sponsor logos I used image trace on photos of logos I found on their respective websites to change them into vector graphics.

Poster Mockup
The poster mockup was created by me in Adobe Photoshop. I found a photo of a bus stop in Montreal and used a perspective wrap to fit the poster onto the bus booth. I also added an overlay of dirty glass over the poster to make it look more natural.

Flyer
For the flyer I created it in Illustrator. The map is an official map from the Osheaga festival that I found on their website. I included photos of the headlining artists with the dates that they are preforming. I wanted to keep it simple because I know for a lot of people they choose which days they attend the festival based on who is preforming so I wanted it to be clear and to the point. The map has information on locations of stages and and concession stands.

Tickets
For the tickets I created them in Adobe InDesign. I added a fake barcode because a lot of these tickets come with a barcode and are scanned at the door when you arrive. I also used datamerge and created an excel sheet with fake attendee names to have those printed on the tickets as well. With a background in event organization having names, numbers and barcodes on tickets is incredibly important. It helps avoid fraudulent tickets.
Process and Methodology

I have a background as a rave organizer and promoter in Montreal and that is actually how I got into graphic design in the first place, making flyers and tickets. So this process is very familiar for me. I always like to start with a mood board including colors, typefaces and imagery that aligns with my vision. I then look at my inspiration photos and once I decide on my color palette and typeface I begin trial and error in Illustrator until I find a format that I enjoy and I run with it. I also made sure to include aspects of the festival that are a real part of it even though this is my fictitious version so I did a research and made sure to include the correct sponsors and dates.
Challenges and Solutions

Overall this project wasen't a big challenge for me because it felt like an elevated version of what got me into graphic design in the first place. 💖

Thanks for taking the time to view my work 💚✨
